In an increasingly interconnected world, where threats can potentially spread rapidly within and across countries, the application of human security highlights the interface between security, development and human rights, and recognizes the profound interlinkages among these three pillars of the United Nations system. By identifying how current and emerging threats can translate into broader insecurities, human security calls for comprehensive, people-centred, context-specific and prevention-oriented actions that help to improve the capacities of Governments and people to provide early warning, identify root causes and address policy gaps with regard to current and emerging challenges. Together, these actions aim to advance freedom from fear, freedom from want and freedom to live in dignity for all.
