Today, the UN Joint Programme started three days training seminar on ‘managing greenhouses and growing vegetables’. Two experts invited from Israel within the frame of the partnership between the UN Joint Programme and MASHAV will be conducting training seminar. The purpose of the training is to further increase the capacity of farmers and dekhans (who run and plan to establish greenhouses), as well as representatives of agricultural organizations and business sector in managing greenhouse in the region, considering the local climate specifics. The training is organized in close partnership with the Council of Ministers of Karakalpakstan and around 40 experts, specialists from the government ministries, farmers and dekhans from all districts of Karakalpakstan are taking part at the event.
During the training, international experts will train participants on the innovative approaches and advanced technologies in the agriculture sector with the focus to cultivation of vegetables in greenhouses, site selection and soil preparation at greenhouses in salinized condition, creating a microclimate and construction of greenhouses. The training will also cover the topics related to growing tomatoes and peppers, fertilizing and watering, a combined method of plant protection, energy saving in greenhouses, as well as methods of self-protection when working with pesticides.
It is anticipated that the training will help participants to obtain skills and knowledge on practices of greenhouse management, methods and skills of effective use of energy resources and crop productivity improvement, protection of plants and yield from pests and diseases. The application of knew skills and knowledge will further enhance income and economic security of the farmers and dekhans as well as equip specialists in the field with necessary knowledge to further develop the greenhouse direction in the region.
This training is a continuation of a series of trainings conducted by the Joint Programme in cooperation with MASHAV in November 2012 and February 2014.
